Women’s Issues, advocating for societal changes that protect women and children from physical and sexual violence.
I am a Licensed Professional Therapist who works with adolescents and adults. I particularly work with various women’s issues, including childhood sexual abuse and adult rape. I come alongside individuals to help them understand their thoughts and emotions and move forward to a place of self-acceptance and empowerment.
When I graduated from high school, I had my eyes set on being a volleyball or basketball coach. I did, indeed, get a degree in education, as well as a Masters in Kinesiology, in order to fulfill my dream. However, over the years I realized that, while I enjoyed coaching, I wanted to do more than teaching the skills of volleyball and how to be warriors on the court. When I would look into the eyes of a young woman who’s self -esteem had been battered or shattered for various reasons, I wanted to be able to sit down with them, come alongside them, and help them delve into their pain and find healing. Obviously it wasn’t the time or place. Eventually I decided it was time to get a degree and a license and “do this for real”.
I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor with a Masters in Counseling in the summer of 2006. At that time I was working with a juvenile detention program in Rockdale, Texas, and greatly enjoyed my work. I then had the opportunity to work the next four years in a women’s prison in Gatesville, where I crafted and fine-tuned my counseling skills.
Today I have established a private practice. I find it exhilarating to work with individuals who are hurting, and partner with them while they find that inner strength necessary to deal with their heart aches, and to take that courageous path of healing that brings life like they’ve never known before.
